If I could break down my journey in the worlds of tech and business into parts, there were two distinct phases. Let’s call them BEFORE and AFTER.
In the BEFORE, I steered my teams with the same tools and process everyone else was using. It felt complicated and slow, and I was trying to squeeze in every spare second of every day to keep everyone on track.
“I need to push as hard as I can until revenues grow enough, and things get far enough along, that everyone starts to 'get it' ...and things fall into place."

Then, there is the AFTER.
The AFTER is when I learned to keep the focus on the essentials, and make them as simple as possible for everyone.
I found ways to make sure our our priorities and motivations "stuck" in everyone's head.
I learned to provide tools that killed busywork and protected inspired performance.
I turned my frustrated self into someone who said:
“There are 5 key components I use to I keep the team focused and working at their best on the right things.”
Why do we burn out before the finish line?
It's the future we set out to create starts to seem fuzzy or impossible to reach.
It's because we don't have usable map, so we lose perspective, or just get plain lost. It's because we don't set up a simple navigation system to remind us where we are or when adjust course.
